Forensic and medical art is a specialised skill that encompasses many different techniques from drawing to computer generated imagery. Forensic art, art used in a court of law, is normally used by police and coroners, for example, in cases of unidentified remains or ongoing murder enquiries.

Age progression uses knowledge of the underlying skull and dental growth to predict how a child may look after at least two years of absence. Images of adults can also be enhanced to look older, using anatomical knowledge of how the face changes with age.
